CAPSTONE PROJECT

IMAGINING WHITTIER SQUARE
My interest in this project started when Jessica Jackson Seay (Executive Director) and Craig Longacre (President of the Board of Directors 2021-2022) from Kendall-Whittier Main Street non-profit came to the OU Urban Design Studio and shared their ideas for the existing parking lot at the corner of Admiral Boulevard and South Lewis Avenue (Whittier Square).
My project will focus on that parking lot to come up with urban design ideas to transform it into a small plaza, which will be part of an urban elements network in the district.

In order to do this, I will hear the community's ideas by launching different activities and participating in events done by Kendall-Whittier Main Street (KWMS)
By the end of the course I will produce a report for KWMS. Everyone interested will have access to the report. It is going to be just a "what if" situation, nothing will be changed in real life.

Everything I will do in this project is part of the service-learning education the Master of Urban Design offers.

IMAGINANDO WHITTIER SQUARE
Mi interés en este proyecto comenzó cuando Jessica Jackson Seay (Directora Ejecutiva) y Craig Longacre (Presidente de la Junta Directiva 2021-2022) de la organización sin fines de lucro Kendall-Whittier Main Street vinieron al OU Urban Design Studio y compartieron sus ideas para el estacionamiento existente en la esquina de Admiral Boulevard y South Lewis Avenue (Whittier Square).

Mi proyecto se centrará en ese estacionamiento para proponer ideas de diseño urbano para transformarlo en un pequeña plaza, que será parte de una red de elementos urbanos en el distrito.
​
Para hacer esto, escucharé las ideas de la comunidad lanzando diferentes actividades y participando en eventos realizados por Kendall-Whittier Main Street (KWMS). Al final del curso, produciré un informe para KWMS.
​
Todos los interesados ​​tendrán acceso al informe. Va a ser sólo una situación de "qué pasarÃa si", nada cambiará en la vida real. Todo lo que haré en este proyecto es parte de la educación de aprendizaje-servicio que ofrece la MaestrÃa en Diseño Urbano.
