On September 21, 2021, I was invited by Jessica Jackson Seay (Executive Director of KWMS) to participate of two meetings (one in KWMS Office and the other in Pancho Anaya's Bakery) related with the future growth of Kendall-Whittier.
I was able to share with all my capstone project and photovoice activity that I am promoting in the neighborhood. I learned a lot on both meetings and met people from different organizations. Representatives from the following organizations participated:
Main Street America
Oklahoma Main Street
Board of Directors of KWMS
KWMS Staff
Tulsa Planning Office
Growing Together
Kendall-Whittier Neighborhood Connection
Kendall-Whittier's Neighbors
Several ideas/thoughts came up on both meetings and almost the same topics were discussed:
Promote expansion of KW. How can we take it to the next level?
KW is diverse: How to connect with everyone? North/South?
Disconnection between Hispanic population
How to promote Hispanic business to stay and also recruit more to come to KW?
San Miguel School and Church. Have a better connection with them.
There is no “gathering” space for Hispanic/Latino community. Opportunity for a Plaza
Hold on Traditions (5 de Mayo, Dia de los Muertos, etc)
Business abandon or closing, how to revert that?
KW has nice parking spaces, is near downtown, easy to navigate.
More space to walk safely, better sidewalks, bridge connecting North/South needs to change (future senior residences in North KW)
General Beautification
